Haffner Text was originally finished for the 2015 TIME magazine redesign, where the brief was to improve overall text readability. The results were confirmed by a positive reception from long-time subscribers. Haffner’s economy of space and strong presence on the page proved an asset in a publication that commands attention.
The subtle compactness and darker character take inspiration from certain typefaces of Johann Fleischmann and Miklós Kis, particularly the Ehrhardt model as cut by Monotype Corporation in 1938. But Haffner foregoes any hint of the Baroque styling of these influences and instead embodies these stout characteristics in a thoroughly original, contemporary style.
The fonts have now been furnished with extensive Latin-script language support, small caps, alternate figure sets, scientific superiors & inferiors, and other accoutrements suitable for exacting typographic needs.
Haffner Text is a superb choice for books, magazines, or any text that calls for a rich texture and gravitas — on the page or screen.
